The Aboriginal Housing First Program consists of two caseworkers providing 12 months of intensive case management to the chronically homeless Indigenous peoples of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The Program is designed to support higher needs clients experiencing several barriers that contributed to them becoming homeless. We provide housing support to clients primarily of Aboriginal descent, however we work with all individuals and families in need of our services. Clients are accepted into our program through Centralized Intake and we assist the clients in finding private market housing of their choice within the community. Clients work together with their Case Worker to address barriers to attaining/ maintaining safe, stable housing and work on goals of self sufficiency and autonomy. ie: addictions and mental health, physical health, employment and training, etc. The Goal is that each client will secure permanent housing and the skills, knowledge and support necessary to maintain their own housing stability.
